GOVEE DreamcolorSmart Lights - Review
Since apps such as TikTok have been getting popular, I've been seeing more people buying LED stips for their rooms. It is amazing how something catches on quickly and now RBG lights are the in thing. Because of this, I thought I would share with you one of my favourite inexpensive SMART RGB light strips you can buy.
I was on amazon one day looking for some cheap strips just to go on top of my cabinets. It was something I didn't want to spend a lot of money on but I needed smart capabilities. I stumbled across a brand called Govee. They have a mix of light strips, some smart, some for the tv with a USB connection and many more options. But one caught my eye. The Govee Dreamcolor with support for Alexa and Google assistant. Now usually cheap RBG lights display only one colour at a time. However, with the Govee Dreamcolor, you can change the colour of the strip in multiple sections, creating amazing blends of colour on your wall. AND FOR ONLY £40 FOR 5 METERS!!!!
Now you can buy addressable LED strips (Only buy if you know how to code!) and there is another company that has the similar features with a higher price tag around £80 - they just have a few extra things that give them the higher price tag. But Govee blows the competition away with its, multicoloured strip, built-in microphone, Alexa and Google support strips for less than even most basic LED strips you would find on eBay.
The setup.
Once you've received the lights it will prompt you to download the Govee app of the App store. It will ask you to create an account (Give you multiple device control) and from there you can add your lights. Stick your lights up. BEST TIP - Face the light strip towards a wall, if you can't do that, stick them on the ceiling as close to the corner as you can, this will make all the colours stand out and make your setup look clean and professional. Click the plus in the top right corner of the app and click on the Bluetooth icon, This will help you find your lights quicker. A list of all your lights will show up here. Click on the ones you want to set up and make sure you are connected to a 2.4ghz WiFi. Once you have added the lights you'll be able to get the Alexa or google support. To do this go into the lights setting and you'll see the option "Using guidance" < This will walk you through the steps to add the light strip to your Alexa or Google Home. You can also use Bluetooth, but this way you cant control the lights when you are away from home.
Now the fun part! How do you get the multicolours? Click on the light in the main menu and you will get 3 options, Music, Colour and Scenes. They all explain what they do, but you will want the colour option. This will bring up a grid, like this.
If you want your light blend to be smoother, toggle the gradient switch. If you want the colour of your light to move, head into the DIY section and pick your colours. Then make sure you have the subsection highlighted. From there you can play with different modes and save the ones you like the most. You can also play music and have the lights interact with the built-in microphone for parties or social gatherings. And yes you can have just one colour if you want, but that's not why I'm showing you these amazing lights. The lights themselves are bright and are visible in daylight with adjustable brightness, but in the night is when they really come alive. With smart controls, you can set your lights to come on throughout the day or by voice commands and even add them to turn on or off when you leave or arrive home. They are so many things you can do with this light strip!
If this is your first time getting smart lights, it will probably take some time to learn some of the settings, but after digging around you will get the hang of it.
From a smart home enthusiast to Govee, I would love to see the support for Homekit in the future. But for the time being, they are incredible.
So stop buying cheap eBay lights and grab yourself some Govee Dreamcolour Smart lights. Overall the lights are amazing - 5/5* They are perfect for videos, smart lighting, or just to show off to your friends.
